Best time to book
For off-peak travel (January, February, October, early November), the best fares typically appear 45–60 days before departure. For summer travel, book 3–5 months in advance. Waiting for a deal in June or July is not a viable strategy on JFK–LHR.
Economy vs. Premium Economy — is it worth it?
All four main carriers on this route offer Premium Economy cabins with wider seats, more legroom, and better meal service. The price premium over Economy is typically $300–$600 round-trip, depending on the carrier and timing. On a 7-hour flight, many experienced transatlantic travellers consider Premium Economy a good value, particularly when booked on a sale.

Practical tips
- Heathrow Terminal 5 is British Airways' home and extremely efficient. If flying BA, connections within T5 are fast and the lounges are among the best at any European hub.
- Heathrow Express takes 15 minutes from LHR to London Paddington (£37 one-way, or buy in advance for less). Cheaper alternatives: Elizabeth Line (TfL, 40–55 mins, ~£13) or N9 bus (90+ mins, ~£6).
- ESTA for US travelers to UK. US passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for UK entry from 2025. Apply at gov.uk before travel (£10 fee).
